A couple weeks ago I heard Emeli Sandè’s latest single, “Next to Me,” on the Tom Morton Show. Immediately I was tapping my toes to the infectious beat. It’s a little gospel, a little rock and a whole lot of soul.
Did you know that the Scottish singer is also a songwriter? She’s written for many artists including Cher and Susan Boyle. Rumor has it, she’s one of Simon Cowell’s favorite songwriters.
Unfortunately, those of us in the States have to wait until June for the US release of her debut album, Our Version of Events. Until then, check out the video for “Next To Me.” (Stick with it past the 15 second advert – it’s worth it. I promise.)

Wasn’t it great? Admit it. You were tapping your toes and singing along with the refrain weren’t you?
My favorite verses:
When the skies are grey and all the doors are closing/And the rising pressure makes it hard to breathe/When all I need’s a hand to stop the tears from falling/I will find him, I’ll find him next to me.
How about you?
